Leonard B. Nelson, M.D., is currently on staff at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia. He received a BA in Biology from Columbia University and his Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his Surgical Internship at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and his Ophthalmology Residency at New York University - Bellevue Medical Center. He went on to complete a one-year Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at The Children's Hospital National Medical Center of George Washington University Medical Center and a one year Fellowship in Ocular Genetics at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He obtained his MBA at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Nelson became a Diplomat of the American Board of ophthalmology in 1981. He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College and attending surgeon at Wills Eye Institute. He is also the Co-Director of The Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Wills Eye Institute. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and has authored over 250 publications and 12 textbooks in pediatric ophthalmology. He belongs to numerous societies including the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and The American Academy of Ophthalmology.
